Astrological aspects are one of the foundational elements in astrology, representing the relationships between planets in a natal chart.  We will uncover these connections + how they influence the interaction between the planets in your birth chart.  The aspects reveal how different planetary energies interact, influencing various areas of life and personality.   

This in-depth workshop will cover the following topics: 

1. Understanding Aspects:

Definition: An aspect is an angle between two planets as viewed from Earth, expressed in degrees. It describes how planets "communicate" or influence each other.

Orb: The orb is the range of degrees that an aspect can be from the exact angle and still be considered effective. 

For example, if a conjunction is considered at 0°, with an orb of 8°, then any angle between 352° and 8° would still count as a conjunction.

2. Major Aspects:

Major aspects are the most influential and commonly used in astrology. 

Here are the main ones:

• Conjunction (0°):

Definition: When two planets are in the same zodiac sign, they are conjunct.

Significance: This aspect blends the energies of the planets involved, often intensifying their effects. It can be harmonious or challenging depending on the planets.

• Opposition (180°):

Definition: When two planets are directly opposite each other.

Significance: Oppositions often represent conflicts or tensions between the planets, highlighting areas of life where balance is needed.

• Trine (120°):

Definition: When two planets are 120 degrees apart, usually in the same element (e.g., Earth, Water).

Significance: Trines are harmonious aspects, indicating ease, natural talent, and beneficial influences. They flow smoothly, often requiring little effort.

• Square (90°):

Definition: When two planets are 90 degrees apart.

Significance: Squares represent challenges, obstacles, and tension. They indicate areas that require hard work, but also opportunities for growth.

• Sextile (60°):

Definition: When two planets are 60 degrees apart, typically in compatible elements.

Significance: Sextiles are positive aspects that indicate opportunities, cooperation, and constructive energy, often requiring some effort to activate. 

3. Aspect Patterns:

When multiple aspects form a pattern in the natal chart, they create unique energies that can influence an individual's life path.

• Grand Trine: A pattern involving three trines, forming an equilateral triangle. It indicates harmony and talent in the areas of the chart where it appears.
• T-Square: Involves two planets in opposition and both square to a third planet. This pattern often represents tension that drives the person to take action.
• Grand Cross: Four planets involved in two oppositions and four squares. It’s a very challenging pattern that demands balance and resilience.
• Yod ("Finger of God"): A pattern involving two planets in sextile, both quincunx to a third planet. This suggests a special destiny or purpose, often requiring adjustments.

4. Calculating Aspects:

Aspects are calculated by measuring the angle between planets on the ecliptic (the apparent path of the Sun). Tools like astrology software or ephemerides (astronomical tables) are often used to calculate these angles accurately.

5. Interpreting Aspects:

• Planetary Influence: Consider the nature of the planets involved in the aspect. 
• Houses and Signs: The houses and signs where the aspect occurs provide context, showing which areas of life or personality are affected.
• Aspect Strength: Strong aspects (e.g., within a tight orb) have a more significant impact, while weaker ones may play a background role.

What to expect: 

Before we dive into the lessons, we will choose either a sacred cacao or a rose tea to open our heart chakras; a beautiful way to enter the space as we begin to gain an understanding of the maps of our birth charts. The process of learning the astrology and gaining insight into our birth chart is a sacred space as it is a vital part of our spiritual essence.

Who is this suitable for?

No prior knowledge of astrology is necessary to join us; we welcome beginners and those who might have some knowledge but wish to dive further into the study.

If you wish to have your own birth chart with you for reference as we move through the lessons (recommended), please submit your date of birth, EXACT time of birth* and location of birth prior to the event and your chart will be printed for you.

*Exact time of birth is vital to correctly cast your Ascendant sign and your moon sign.

About Erika:

Erika is an intuitive astrologer.  She combines the knowledge she has been acquiring about the complex nature of astrology, with connecting to the birth chart on an empathic level.

Erika's approach is to sit in ceremony with the chart and then begin to unravel the symbolism and archetypes to interpret what the cosmos is saying within the natal chart.

She believes that astrology is a tool to assist one in raising their vibration and connecting to their soul’s path.  She has spent the last two years studying at the Faculty of Astrological Studies in London and is working towards her diploma.

Erika is also a certified Embodied Reiki Level 2 practitioner.
