About the event
Stone circles like Stonehenge and Avebury have captured the imagination of millions for decades, even centuries. Other megalithic monuments like Newgrange and West Kennett Barrow also hint at a deep communion with ancestors, and celebrations marking special times of the year.
Many of these monuments were built with alignments to the Sun at Solstices, this has been demonstrated by archaeology. Other alignments, with the Moon and stars, are however much more complex to verify, but that doesn’t mean we can’t connect with them today!
Using the framework of a monument as a ‘cathedral of stone’, through meditation and contemplation we have the opportunity to align ourselves to whatever is in the skies at any given moment, and maybe trigger a spiritual experience that can lead to the deepening of our journey.
While the Stone Age monuments of the British Isles are the most famous in the world, other countries also have their own amazing sites, and we’ll explore a stone circle in Portugal much older than Stonehenge. We’ll also look at ground breaking research into a Portuguese dolmen that is connected to a particular star, and possible initiation rituals.
In this session there will be guided meditations to experience Stonehenge in an immersive way, and suggestions of other practices that can deepen your connection to ancient monuments and the land.
